I studied music at college, playing the ‘cello, piano and double bass. I taught in primary schools for 30 years with music as my special subject and so organised many concerts and taught the recorder and guitar.
I started playing the accordion in 1984 and attended courses in Scotland. I played for a Scottish Dance team and for Morris Dancing. In 1988 I was invited to become the lead accordionist in the Northern Lights Ceilidh Band whose repertoire extended to ballroom dancing as well as folk dances from many lands. We played for weddings, fund raising events and private parties.
In 1991 I set up my own accordion entertainment business and developed a large collection of popular songs from all eras so as to entertain at societies meetings and residential homes. I perform solos including comedy songs and lead sing-a-longs. I have performed at large gatherings for Age Concern and Women’s Institute Group meetings.
I started my own band called Heather Mixture, as my accordion has a mixture of sounds and for some events I have a live drummer. I call for folk dances so that everyone knows what to do next. I also play for ballroom dancing. I have played in many hotels and restaurants during meals and for larger events such as Masonic Dinners. I have also played for intimate family get-togethers and large fund raising events.
As a member of the Musicians Union I have third party and public liability insurance.
